Finding Our Way Around Vienna

Murua, Sue and I did some exploring in the city. We, more or less, stayed in one area and did our exploring there. We took the metro to Stephansdom where St. Stephen’s Cathedral is right when you get off the metro. We tried to find one of the side streets that would take us into the heart of Vienna. We ended up in one of the shopping areas so I did some more window shopping and dropped off some more film to be developed. We wandered around until we found the Hofburg which is the imperial palace and we walked around the Burggarten Gardens for awhile. I stopped by the tourist information booth to see how much a ticket would cost to see the Vienna Boys’ Choir on Sunday. They were sold out. The best I might be able to do would be to watch them from the foyer on a big screen tv which wouldn’t be the same. Because of this, I changed my plans a little and will be staying in Vienna until Sunday morning.

We were going to head to the Zentralfriedhof which is the central cemetery to see the memorial tombs of Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Mozart but it started to rain so we headed back to the hostel for awhile. Earlier this morning, we had to move to Hostel Ruthensteiner which wasn’t too far from Wombat’s. The only problem were the rooms were really small to try and move around in for anyone.

Grabbed dinner from a bakery around the corner and then Sue and I headed back out to find the cemetery. It turns out it closed an hour before we got there. Will have to head there tomorrow. Headed back to the main tourist area by the metro – Stephansplatz to take some photos of the opera house at night. Turns out they were having a concert performing that night with an orchestra and we got to see it for free on the big screen tv. We stayed until the end of the concert and then headed back to the hostel. Read some more of my book and then fell asleep. Earlier, managed to take some photos of Schloss Belvedere which houses the Austrian Gallery in the two buildings that surround the gardens.
